I've been in Atlanta my entire life and I've never seen anything like it. Truly a perfect storm situation.

Thankfully I was working from home and didn't get stuck on the roads, but lots of folks were stuck in their cars for many hours, took shelter in churches, etc.

I came to visit my parents in ATL way back 20+ years ago at Christmas time and something very similar hit just after I arrived at their house. We were house bound for about a week - nothing like the whole family stuck inside, booze supply running low, nearly a catastrophe.

Seattle shuts down after 3 inches of snow. Cars abandoned on the side of the interstate. When I lived in CT I would always find a way to get home under any and all conditions. The abandoned car thing struck me as very odd.

You're right about Seattle. We're pathetic mostly. The city has gotten lots better in dealing with snow, but let's face it, practice makes perfect or at least good when you drive in the stuff. And we just don't see very much plus there is very little flat around here and a lot of steep. Otoh, we obsess over it a lot. :)
